Early Childcare & Education

Learning occurs daily in all subjects to prepare children to serve God and people throughout their lives. The Holy Spirit, through God's Word, nurtures children's faith in Christ. Children are taught God's Word and are comforted by the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Teachers are trained to meet the diverse needs of our students by offering a Christ-centered "educational journey". Our goal is to work as a team with the parents to meet the academic, psychological, developmental, and spiritual needs of the child.

Curriculum

A Beka Book provides Christian schools with outstanding curriculum and textbooks built on a foundation of academic excellence and Christian character training. HGCA units of study include the following:

Math
The Kindergarten math program focuses on using concrete examples to illustrate abstract concepts, transferring quantities to symbols and learning the ones, tens, hundreds and thousands. Bank game and golden bead materials provide an introduction to the decimal system and basic operations. Squaring and cubing of numbers is demonstrated through the bead chains of varying colors.

 

Science
HGCA science introduces students to a wide breadth of topics including botany, zoology, anatomy, physical sciences and astronomy. Trips to the North Carolina Zoo and HGCA's very own garden help to bring these studies to life for the children.
Kindergartners learn classification techniques, magnet work, sink-and-float work, skeletal make-up and the way planet models are created.

 

Religion

Weekly presentations of Bible stories using hands-on materials encourage student participation in their own spiritual experience. Students hear and interact with Bible stories involving God and His Son, Jesus, offer insight into these stories and sing songs of praise. Christian service is also a part of the religion curriculum, with Montessori students participating by providing Christmas gifts to families in need.

All children grow and mature at different rates and we have designed our programs and activities to reflect these developmental differences. Your child will be placed and moved along in the Program according to his or her current developmental level.

Infants: 6 weeks - 12 months
Toddlers: 12 months - 24 months
Two's: 2-3 years old
Three's: 3-4 years old
Four & Five's: 4-5 years old

Technology

We are excited about the integration of iPads in our Kindergarten classroom for the 2012 school year. We believe that students empowered with technology from an early age results in a better prepared problem solver that is equipped for the demands of a college-prep environment.

GETTING STARTED
You can complete the application process online or pick up a registration packet at the Academy office.

SUBMIT APPLICATION
Your admission file is created upon receipt of your completed application and application fee. See Registration Checklist to ensure a complete submission.

TESTING
Kindergarten candidates are required to take a developmental readiness test. Our Academy office will call you to schedule testing.

INTERVIEW
Applicants are eligible for an interview. Both parents are encouraged to attend as this interview will allow us to get to know one another more personally and gives
parents an opportunity to ask questions. Our Academy office will call you to schedule interview.

ADMISSIONS REVIEW
Our Admissions Review Committee will then review your application to ensure that the applicant has a strong chance for success at HGCA. The review will typically occur within a week following completion of the prior steps.

REGISTRATION
Once the interview is complete, we will prepare an enrollment contract for your signature and welcome you to the HGCA Community!
